RasterOps Announces 8L, 24L Color Display Boards
Santa Clara, CA--June 5, 1990—-RasterOps Corporation (NASDAQ:ROPS), a leader
in color display technology for the Macintosh, today announced the 8L and 24L
Display Boards, 24-bit true color display boards for the Macintosh II family
that provide flicker-free, multiple-resolution displays for most 13-, 16- and
19-inch monitors. The boards are also available as system packages with
RasterOps' 16-inch and 19-inch monitors.
The boards provide flexible system configurations that support image
resolutions of 640 x 480, 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 pixels at screen refresh
rates of 60Hz or 75Hz. The 8L Display Board offers the same features as the 24L
but provides an inexpensive, entry-level color solution which can easily be
upgraded to 16.7 million colors by adding additional memory with the RasterOps
8L VRAM Expansion Kit.
Both the 8L and 24L Display Boards support Block Mode Transfer, the Apple
standard for transferring large amounts of data rapidly across the bus, and the
RasterOps Accelerator, a Quick Draw graphics accelerator which significantly
boosts overall performance of 24-bit color, graphics-intensive applications.
The boards support display bit modes from monochrome through photorealistic
color with true WYSIWYG display resolution (72 dots per inch), which allows
users to visualize the actual printed result. Pan/Zoom capabilities allow two
or four times screen enlargement and quick document panning. The Extended
Desktop feature creates a bigger desktop window, advantageous when working with
large documents.
"With the 8L and 24L boards supporting Block Mode Transfer, the Accelerator can
then be used to take advantage of the quicker transfer of data," said Scott
Brodrick, product manager at RasterOps. "This will make full-color graphics
applications work faster and smoother."
Price and Availability
The 8L Display Board will have a suggested retail price of $1995, while the 24L
Display Board will be priced at $3995. The 24L is available immediately; the
8L will begin shipping in June. The RasterOps 8L VRAM Expansion Kit will have
a suggested retail price of $1995. The RasterOps 8L System package, which
includes the 8L board and 19-inch monitor, will retail for $6190; the 8L System
16 includes a 16-inch monitor for $4990. The RasterOps 24L System includes a
19-inch monitor and lists for $8190; the 24L System 16 includes a 16-inch
